Italy Starts COVID-19 Vaccinations for All Above 12 Years

Italy has started vaccinations for every individual above the age of 12 years.

The European Medicines Agency approved the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for 12 to 15-year-olds last week. Now every region can adapt the national rules and anyone who is registered with health authorities can sign up for vaccination, including teenagers.

Following a slow start, the country’s vaccination program has now gained pace. Over 35 million vaccine doses have been administered thus far, with 12.4 million individuals, which is approximately 23% of the population, being fully vaccinated, according to data from the health ministry.

COVID-19 infections have dropped significantly over the past few weeks in the country, with several restrictions being eased. A night curfew however continues, besides restrictions on indoor dining and wearing masks in public places… (NDTV – AFP, June 3, 2021)
